PERU

MuDAN

Music and Sport in favor of the children living in Villa de Ancón, Lima.

MuDAN tries to have a positive impact on childhood and adolescence conditions in the Ancón district, in the northern area of Lima. It promotes the social inclusion of young children age 5 to 15 belonging to the poorest families, through the creation of a gathering center which offers music and sports activities and active citizenship.

AREA OF INTERVENTION

Social inclusion. Non-formal education. Active citizenship.

WHAT WE DO

1) Building of a multifunctional center where young people could gather together. A music school and a multi-sport field would be included inside the structure. Once the building is ready, we would start the paperwork in order for it to be recognized by the National educational System. The weekly workplan will include music courses (choir, percussions, brass and string instruments) and sport courses (Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball) divided into age ranges.

2) Schooling support activities to help children with their individual study moments and their homework.

3) Promotion of a healthy diet in order to prevent the diffusion of several diseases linked with malnutrition. Some food education campains will be organized and a cafeteria  in the music school will be activated.

4) Minors, Young people and their families will be involved in active citizenship and environmental responsibility courses. These activities will be held:

  • Meetings with the families in order to promote the discussion among the participants, the common thinking and the social committment sensibilization;
  • Some days will be dedicated to the environment education and to the public places cleaning. In these days, a small Vetiver plant will be gifted to the families, for them to take care.
  • Monthly ricycle laboratories for the creation of musical instruments with waste materials (bottles, boxes, buckets and plastic boxes)
  • Annual public meetings to share the project’s results, the creation of multimedial material and the promotion of local fundraising events.

WHERE AND WHY

In the last decades, Villas de Ancón has become more and more populated by immigrants and  without a real urban organization. Infrastructures and resourses are poor: only the 47,8% of inhabitants has access to clear water, 48% has waste systems and 56,5% has electricity.

In addition, there is a complete lack of services and infrastructures thought for young people and there is no youth policy.

Nowadays, the Sagrada familia church offers school support and non-formal education activities, especially in the music field.
