Wellness, parenthood and school inclusion: helping children with disabilities in Ukraine

Ukraine has the scars of a difficult past and an instable present.

In the general silence as to the conflict that started in Ucraina in 2014, but hoping to succeed in helping those who work there to promote the rights of children with disabilities and improve their life conditions, IBO Italia renewed its commitment to the project: “well-being, parenthood and school inclusion: interventions in favour of disabled children in Ucraina”.

Inclusion can not be considered separated
from the care of relationships and emotions .

WHAT WE DO

The first training course for rehabilitation specialists took place from 9th to 13th October: a physiatrist and a physioterapist, volunteers from Green Cross Association- Predappio went to Kistman to train 14 Ucrainian operators at “Dzvinochok Centre”. A few months earlier, in August, 5 representatives of school integration Office of Ferrara Municipality, together with IBO Italia representatives and of Italia-Ucraina Association visited the school n.24 in  Chernivtsi. This made it possible for teachers and trainees to get to know each other and to lay the basis for the subsiquent training. Dances and singing brightened up a party for the children in Kitsman.

From 18th to 25th October, the training course enriched with a study visit in Ferrara and Bologna: 8 Ucrainian operators (teachers, headmasters, public administrators and a parent) met school representatives, social cooperatives, parent associations, support teachers, headmasters and municipal educators.
